Dear JSD Parents,
As you are aware, we have had unprecedented weather conditions so far this winter and we are anticipating additional winter storms that could require us to cancel school in the future. In an effort to maintain ongoing learning for our students, meet the required number of instructional hours mandated by the state and not extend the school year into the summer, we will be implementing a remote teaching/learning plan when we have weather or road conditions that make it unsafe to hold in-person school. Specifics of the remote teaching/learning plan will be communicated to parents and students by Mrs. Palic for the Elementary School and Mr. Renquist for the Jr./Sr. High School so expectations are clear on how the remote teaching/learning plan will be implemented. Please do not hesitate to contact the school with any questions or assistance! Shawn Ehnes, Superintendent
Students are riding scooters on "The Healthy Highway" to the food pantry to choose healthy foods to eat! Not only are they choosing healthy foods, but they are also getting great exercise by using scooters to get there!

Weather, weather, weather! Third grade started their weather unit this week and when you learn about weather you must first learn the water cycle. Students made a necklace with beads that represented each stage of the water cycle. Students then used their necklace to explain the water cycle to someone.

Teamwork is the main focus of our reading unit. This week students have been doing several different teamwork activities and don’t even realize it. Saving Fred was one activity. Students were teamed up and had to get Fred’s life preserver out from under his boat and around him. The catch, they could had to complete the task using only paper clips.

Learning math facts takes a lot of practice to build fluency. Worksheets get boring so in third grade we add games. This week students wrote different multiplication facts and one at a time raced to solve the facts and try to beat their classmates times. We also tossed the soccer ball and multiplied the numbers their thumbs landed on.

The amount of academic growth we have seen out of our Freshmen class has been impressive. Their hard work is paying off!
