We have begun our Jump Rope unit at the elementary. With February being "Heart Healthy Month" we prepare for our "Jump Rope For Heart Extravaganza", which takes place at the end of the month. Students work hard on creating performances that they take to the stage!

The Sedgwick County Department of Human Services asked us to send this information out to parents in our community: The max allotments that families have been receiving since the pandemic in 2020 is ending this month. We tell families all the time when they are in here or when they call but if we can just keep letting them know. This will have a huge impact on families and we are aware of this. If you could remind families that the Julesburg Christian Church has commodity distribution the last Saturday of every month. This distribution is a good resource for families. We also have a limited food pantry here at the office, but households can only access it every 30 days.

Mrs. Lindsay gave the Good News Call of the Day to Liam Buettenback, Cameron Hackbart, Kevin Lopez, Noah Lopez and Christian Zamacona for their hard work clearing snow around town. Mrs. Lindsay’s neighbors had quite the drift that those boys worked very hard on. They also got someone unstuck while they were doing the job at the neighbors. They worked their tails off!! Way to go gentlemen!

Boettcher Foundation names FINALISTS! Congratulations to JHS Seniors, Kierra Ehnes & Jensen Renquist for being selected as one of 100 finalists for the 2023 Boettcher Scholarship! With submissions from more than 2,000 qualified Colorado seniors, this year's applicant pool was intensely competitive, making the selection process incredibly difficult. As a result, advancing to the finalist round is a remarkable achievement. Being a merit-based scholarship these finalists are further judged on their superior scholastic ability and intellectual curiosity, evidence of leadership and involvement, service to community and school, & outstanding character during their personal one-on-one interviews with the Boettcher Foundation in March. The Boettcher Foundation Scholarship will cover the cost of scholars tuition, fees, and books for 8 semesters. Of the 100 finalists, 50 will be named Boettcher Scholars.

Julesburg Elementary continues to celebrate all things literacy! We would like to give a special thank you to our Superintendent, Mr. Ehnes for serving as our guest reader today. Students took on a Christmas Break Reading Challenge and tracked how many different places they could read over break. Students were rewarded with a hot chocolate party and a story read by Mr. Ehnes. The book was "What Would You Do With A Chance" by Kobi Yamada and Mr. Ehnes shared a great message about being brave and taking chances in order to take part in new and exciting experiences. It was a great day to be a Julesburg Elementary Student!
