In honor of Veteran's Day, the Junior High School Career Explorations class interviewed Air Force Veteran Staff Sergeant Joe Stan under the guidance of Mrs. Monette . On Wednesday, November 11th at 2 pm, please join the students and staff of Julesburg School District on Cedar Street for a reverse parade honoring our local Veterans. Joe Stan entered the Air Force in January of 1971; during the Vietnam War. He was a veterinary technician that took care of animals. Part of Mr. Stan’s job was to take care of dogs and run lab tests. He worked in Cambodia keeping soldiers healthy by keeping them from getting animal diseases such as rabies. Mr. Stan also worked at the Okinawa Air Force base. The vet techs had around 800 trained dogs and several horses to take care of. The dogs, mostly German Shepherds, were important for guarding bombers, guarding the base, carrying messages and sniffing out bombs. During his time in the military, Mr. Stan earned awards including the Service Award and Marksmanship Award. Mr. Stan, we thank you for your service!
