Working on fractions in 4th grade! This week we made fraction flip books and fraction shapes that will help students visualize their new learning concept.

Working on the finishing touches of his fraction flip book
Finished product of the fraction flip book
Students shared their final products of their fraction shapes with the class. Each student chose how many times they folded their shape, labeled the shaded fraction and unit fraction, and had to count from zero to one-whole.
Fraction flip books…a work in progress
True leaders not only perform amazing tasks, but they also inspire others to do the same. Today, the JHS Service and Leadership Team inspired visitors at the Welcome Center to lend a helping hand. Way to go SLT members! Your service is inspiring!

Another highlight of the Ag Field Trip was feasting on Martha Kinnie’s famous Sloppy Joes! Students also took a (supervised) spin around Kinnie farms in a tractor! FFA members also enjoyed burning off energy by wrangling and cuddling some Campbell lambs. If you know of any other great opportunities, field trips, or experiences that would benefit the AgEd students, send your suggestions to Miss Hope at hope_ch@julesburg.org Thank you again to our Ag partners for hosting this amazing opportunity for students!

FFA students had the engaging opportunity to visit agriculture in our county! From Campbell Club Lambs to Seaboard Farms and Brandt Boer Goats to Kinnie Farms, these students experienced agriculture first-hand! Special thank you to the Kinnie, Brandt, and Campbell Families and Seaboard Farms for providing this hands-on experience to students!

8th Grade Agriculture students have been learning all about soil! A special thank you goes out to Daniel Palic, Mark Hartelt, and Sherri Brandt at the Sedgwick County Conservation District for presenting to the students about soil health and the NRCS. Students then took their knowledge of soil to try out a soil ribbon test which figures out soil type (loamy, sandy, clay loam, etc). Another thank you goes out to Holly Christensen for allowing us to test her family’s ranch soil! Joke of the day: How did the farmer find true love? She met her soil mate.
