As part of our “Making a Difference” unit, third graders did some buddy reading with their younger peers. Pre-K, Kindergarten, and First grades

Shake! Rattle! Roll! 2nd graders are learning all about how the earth changes quickly and slowly over time, by erosion, wind and weather. Students used graham crackers and whipped topping to simulate what happens in an earthquake!

Second graders bounced basketballs to the beat in music class. Students practiced finding the beat, followed different rhythms, and worked on their coordination all while having fun!

Kaitlyn DeWerff of Barton Community College presented to the JHS Sophomore Life Skills Class and together they worked on what type of income they would have if they chose to graduate high school going directly into the work force, obtaining an Associate’s Degree, or obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree. Each student was provided an envelope of money based on their level of education. Then each had to figure their monthly expenses to include housing, utilities, fuel, car payments and insurance, food, health insurance, savings, personal spending, entertainment, cell phone expenses, and recreation. Once it was determined what they owed for their monthly expenses, they then rolled their fate. Some were then faced with unexpected layoffs for a determined amount of time or unexpected medical expenses. The reality of what they did and didn’t have monetarily at the end of the month was an authentic life experience!!

A.R.E.A. count the squares inside-hey! That’s the rhyme second grade learned to memorize how to find the area of shapes during intervention time.
They then practiced with a partner finding the area by covering objects with inch squares.
Thank you Mrs. Hoschouer for sharing Standout math to expand our knowledge with quick, easy to learn rhymes that students can remember for a lifetime!

Due snow and road conditions that will be deteriorating over the course of the day, there will be no school today (March 9th) for the Julesburg School District.

A little puppy love! Third grade had some special visitors today! Thank you to the Lanckriet family for sharing these little ones with us.

The ThinkFast Interactive Assembly is an evidence-informed program that was developed in 1997 as a fun, innovative, and experiential entertainment program that would non-intrusively expose participates to important educational information about custom safety awareness topics such as the consequences of underage drinking, substance misuse and abuse, bullying, and traffic safety.
Today the 7th -12th grade students at Julesburg High School took part in this highly engaging, interactive assembly. Photo includes the top four finalists: Jacob Farrell, Bryan Van Houten-Bagby, Tessa Cranmore, & Joseph Beeson. Tessa won the final competition to split a $100 Amazon gift card with her team!
This program is sponsored by the Colorado Department of Transportation.

Students at Julesburg High School have the opportunity to enroll in a college credit Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) course through their online school, Destinations Career Academy of Colorado in conjunction with Northeast Junior College. This mobile lab allows Destinations to travel around the state to meet the lab hours required of all online CNA students!
Pictured from left to right is: Rylie Ingram, Instructor – Ms. Shari Bossmann, Kierra Ehnes, Collin Lechman, Jensen Renquist, & Vivian Fraire.
The lab skills they are working on today include: bathing, transferring, and taking vital signs of a patient. This is day one of a three-day lab experience. Students will obtain 5.5 college credit hours and a CNA Certification at the conclusion of this semester.

The juniors in Life Skills are collaborating about credit. They are discussing the guidelines to determine your credit worthiness which are character, capacity, and capital. Your credit worthiness is determined before you are given the option to buy on credit.

First grade students played rhythm sticks along with songs in music class. B-I-N-G-O is a favorite for tapping rhythms.

The Third Grade Class is learning how they can make a meaningful difference in their local or global community. Students thought of things they can do to make a difference and decided they wanted to have an Animal Supply Drive and donate to an animal shelter. If you would like to donate to their cause please take items to the elementary school or contact Ms. Keli (Hoschouer) for other arrangements.
