In this Blended Learning environment, students will learn from the teacher in traditional ways. Your student will also learn using online tools. JES Families...just a reminder, we will have our scheduled supply drop off on Monday, August 31st from 7:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Elementary students' first official day of school will be Tuesday, September 1st. Please see your individual scheduled time that was sent to you in the mail. You will drop off your child's supplies at their grade level entry/dismissal location. Please see the map attached. Also, please note the times for classes to enter and dismiss. These staggered times assist our staff and students from multiple grade levels to not congregate in the hallways. The Julesburg School District will not be serving breakfast each morning in the elementary cafeteria or at the high school each day due to the challenges of social distancing related to Covid-19. Instead, we will record a breakfast count each morning during attendance and will prepare a breakfast that will be delivered to your child (in their classroom) at the end of each school day. This breakfast will be for the next morning. In order to get a more accurate count, please fill out the the form indicating your intent for your child to receive a breakfast at the end of each school day. Students qualifying for free and reduced meals will still receive a free breakfast. Students not qualifying for free and/or reduced meals can still request a breakfast and will be charged the breakfast cost of $1.60. By filling out this form, this verifies your permission for your child to request a breakfast each morning. You only need to fill this out once. August 17, 2020 Dear Julesburg Jr./Sr. High School Parents and Students, As a JHS graduate, I am both honored and excited to be your new 7-12 Principal. My parents are Randy and Susan. I have two siblings. Kerri lives in McCook with her husband, Andy and their three children. Matthew, and his wife, Anna, live in Loveland. They have three children. My wife, Alissa, will be working as our Online/Ag Learning Facilitator and as the Head Coach for the High School Volleyball team. We have five children. Our oldest, Dylan will be a freshman at Regis University. Jensen will be a sophomore. Tate is entering the 7th grade. Addison will be a 5th grader and our youngest, Jace, is excited about 2nd grade. We are excited to announce the arrival of two new teachers. Ms. Brianne Foreman taught Social Studies in the Denver metro area. Our new English teacher, Mr. Peyman Javadi is an experienced teacher that has been approved to teach College English and Public Speaking to JHS students through NJC. I am excited for these two new teachers to join our outstanding returning staff members. While this school year will be different from school years in the past, the School Board and Administrative team have been working hard to ensure students can safely return. Here are some of the changes for the upcoming school year: · The first day of school will begin with a virtual assembly during first period. · Students who want a school breakfast will be given one after school for the next day. · Students will enter the school at 8 am through the exterior door of their first period class. · 7-12 students may eat at the lunch room or stay at the high school for a grab-and-go style lunch. Social distancing requirements will be enforced. Students will be allowed to leave campus for lunch. · Since it is impossible to maintain social distancing, lockers will not be issued. Students will take their supplies with them to each class. Teachers may have designated areas for students to leave supplies. · Masks will be recommended, unless required by the Governor’s Executive Order. · Students will not be allowed to congregate while on school property. · Good hygiene is recommended. Students should wash their hands or use sanitizer regularly. · Traffic during passing periods will be limited to one-way traffic. Signs will be posted. · Restroom usage will be regulated to make sure there are not too many students using the bathrooms at the same time due to small space limitations in the restrooms. · Students need to bring their own water and water bottles from home. There is one water bottle filing station located in the gym that students may use to fill their water bottle throughout the day. · Parents are encouraged to take their child’s temperature before sending their student to school. If the child has a fever or is exhibiting unexplained COVID-19 symptoms, then the child must stay home. · If a student becomes ill at school, he/she will be sent to a quarantine room until a parent or guardian can come to school to pick the student up. Please keep in mind, your child’s health and well-being were at the forefront of every decision that was made. Make sure it’s one you will remember. · Mask What Families Can Do During the COVID-19 Pandemic ● Send your child to school with a clean mask daily. (if required by the Executive Order of the Governor)● Understand that these guidelines are determined by health, educational and community professionals in an effort to care for your child, considering the physical environment, time spent in school, and the potential risk to the health of our students, staff and families. ● Take family members' temperatures twice daily. If temperature reaches 99.4, keep your child home for 48 hours, with 24 hours of no temperature without fever reducing medication. ○ Keep your child home if they have an unexplained fever, cough, cold or flu symptoms, and have them return only when these symptoms have subsided for 48 hours, with 24 hours of no temperature without aid of fever reducing medication. ● Create a family plan: ○ In case your child is sent home from school/bus due to high temperature or is required to be quarantined or isolated. ○ In the event schools close for a 14-day quarantine. ● Talk to your child about changes they may notice at school, reinforcing that these measures are in place to preserve their health, and the health of those around them. ● As always, please reinforce the importance of respecting the responsibility of teachers and staff to maintain order in the classroom, the hallway, and other campus areas. ● Prepare to adapt to change. 2 ○ From March 13, 2020 to today, we know that things evolve quickly, and schedule modifications and/or closures may be unavoidable. ● Understand that we are here to assist you with your child’s educational needs. ● Know that you as a guardian and parent have the right to keep your child home at any time as you assess risk as it relates to your family. Dear Julesburg School District Families, After months of careful planning, we are ready and eager to begin school in-person with our students on Monday, August 31st! We have and continue to work tirelessly to develop academic and operational plans that will allow us to be together safely in-person while at school. Our teachers are working diligently to plan and implement high quality in-person learning for our students that can be delivered in a combination of in-person and asynchronous methods that will enable our students to have high quality learning experiences both in school and outside of school if we need to transition to a remote teaching/learning environment. It is important for us all to take the personal responsibility to mitigate the risks of transmitting the COVID-19 virus by following the health measures outlined in the Julesburg School District Restart Plan. The most important thing we ALL can do to protect each other is to conduct daily temperature checks, be mindful of COVID-19 symptoms and quickly have those symptoms evaluated by a doctor before potentially sharing them with others. School operations, teaching and learning will indeed be a little different this year, but we are confident that by following some common sense risk mitigation strategies, we can safely return to a more “normal” school year. The Julesburg School District is planning to continue the COVID-19 emergency free food service through August 28, 2020. This is available to any child ages 1 through 18 years of age. You do not need to qualify for free or reduced meals to utilize this service. This will continue to be a Grab-n-Go Style. Lunch & Breakfast (for the next morning) will need to be picked up at the elementary school from 11:45 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. daily (Monday - Friday). Food will be distributed on a first come first serve basis. Please fill out this survey if you plan to utilize this emergency food service. The Julesburg School District plans to return to in-person instruction for the 2020-2021 school year, following all required health and safety protocols. In an effort to plan accordingly, we need for parents/guardians of JSD students to complete this form and submit no later than July 17, 2020.
