On Tuesday, May 13th, the Julesburg School honored Mr. and Mrs. Ehnes at the annual Awards night. We all wish Mr. and Mrs. Ehnes a very enjoyable retirement! Good evening everyone, My name is Tammy Aulston and I am the current Board of Education President. Tonight, I am honored to stand before you to celebrate the remarkable careers and contributions of our superintendent, Mr. Shawn Ehnes and dean of students, Mrs. Kimberly Ehnes. Mr. Ehnes has been a pillar of our institution, leading with vision and dedication for 25 years. Under his leadership, our school has received more than 20 academic awards, recognizing our district as a top-performing school with some of the highest graduation rates in the state. Mr. Ehnes's fiscal expertise has increased our general fund reserve from $359,000 to $12,000,000, while also implementing almost $6 million in improvements on the old schools over the years such as a Geothermal heating system, updated electrical systems, remodeling gyms and locker rooms, roofs and don’t forget about our brand new $50 million dollar state of the art school facility that we have the pleasure of being in today. I remember when Mr. Ehnes first introduced me to the online school program. I had no idea the depth of this program. Bringing the Online school to Julesburg was a visionary move that changed the image of online school from a last resort to a program of choice for career and technical pathway development which also includes, after a 40-year absence, a state accredited Julesburg FFA program. Mrs. Ehnes has served our district and been a supporting resource for our students for 21 years. She has been instrumental in coordinating the online school, helping students successfully complete career pathway courses, and serving as the concurrent college credit coordinator. Mrs. Ehnes has helped students achieve their Associate degrees, pushed seniors to secure thousands of dollars in scholarships each year, and prepared the students for successful lives after high school. She has also been a sponsor and coordinator for FBLA, including being a competitive judge at the district and state levels. Mrs. Ehnes also successfully secured grants for our school district. Her efforts have brought hundreds of thousands of dollars in grants, significantly benefiting our students and staff. One of my favorite things about Mrs. Ehnes is her relationship with her students. From the crazy free topic Friday conversations about real life events and their impacts, to counseling students social/emotional needs and skills. She always puts students’ needs first. We are deeply grateful for the tireless work and unwavering commitment of Mr. Shawn Ehnes and Mrs. Kimberly Ehnes. Their contributions have shaped our school in countless ways. Over their 20+ years of leadership they have impacted over 10,000 students, 200 staff members, 36 community board of education directors, and many, many educators across the entire state of Colorado who look to them as respected leaders and mentors. As you both embark on this new journey, we wish you all the best. May your retirement be filled with joy, relaxation, and new adventures. Your legacy will continue to inspire us, and we are committed to building on the foundation you have laid. Thank you, Mr. Ehnes and Mrs. Ehnes, for everything you have done for our school, our community and most importantly, our children. We are forever grateful. Please join me in celebrating the incredible careers of Mr. Ehnes and Mrs. Ehnes.
