FFA Nationals Part 1
Julesburg FFA students departed for the National FFA conference on last Monday. We joined 11 other chapters and 95 other students on 2 charter busses headed to Indianapolis. It took us 2 days to travel to Indianapolis. We made a few stops along the way. We stopped at the University of Nebraska East campus. The students took a tour of what their Agricultural College has to offer and even got to taste some of the ice cream that is made right on campus. We stopped over at Des Moines and got to experience some Cajun Food. While in Des Moines we toured the Corteva Complex and learned how they make new varieties of corn and soybeans. While in town we were also able to tour the John Deere plant. The specialize in making Cotton Pickers and Sprayers. They got to seee how a Sprayer is made from start to finish. At both Corteva and John Deere, they learned about careers that are offered. We stopped for the night in Peoria. We continued traveling to Indianapolis through Amish Country. The kids were able to see the different ways that people in the area farmed. We continue on to attend the opening session of the 96th National FFA Convention. At the session we heard from the Indiana Governor about the importance of Agriculture. After the opening session, our students attended the CSU Social. At the social they were able to interact with other Colorado FFA members that were attending the National Conference. The next morning we toured Indianapolis Motor Speedway. After the tour, we headed back to the conference, where the students had the opportunity to attend leadership workshops, talk with the over 150 colleges that were there and the nearly 100 businesses at the Career Fair. We attended two more session of the conference listen to several inspiring speechs by the National Officers.
