SLT Members spent their Saturday morning, diligently cleaning, sweeping, and vacuuming every new surface within the Julesburg Depot Museum, to prepare it for the upcoming artifacts that will lie inside of it and the soon public opening. The members had jobs that included washing windows, inside and out, sweeping and vacuuming every surface, cleaning restrooms, dusting, and much more. It was a fun day working together to accomplish a big goal and vision for our community! The JHS Sophomore Class is learning about Relationship Bank Accounts! Each student is working towards making a deposit in the account of each of our School Board members in keeping with School Board Appreciation Month!

Julesburg FFA members travelled to the National Western Stock Show in Denver where they got to see agriculture happen first hand! From seeing a real-time cat spay, attending a pro-rodeo, and mucking pig stalls, these students gained their metaphorical boots today!

In music kindergarten students took turns playing the wood block, xylophone and rain stick while singing The Itsy Bitsy Spider. They are learning how instruments and music together can tell a story.

Julesburg High School’s New Year's Resolutions By: Julesburg High School Journalism Team When the New Year rolls around, people like to make ambitiously personal goals. The Julesburg Journalism Team sees New Year’s resolutions as a way of self betterment so that individuals can better themselves for tomorrow. During the first two weeks of the new year, we decided to interview people in the Julesburg High School community to see if they had created New Year's resolutions for themselves. Those people include Bryan Bagby, Owen Harris, Kierra Ehnes, Jaymee Lanckriet, Emily Fowler, Hope Myslive, Jayce Strasser, Mrs. Monette, and Mrs. Ehnes. The first person we went to was Bryan Bagby. His goal is to workout more to get bigger and stronger. His motivation comes from “Just the fact that I'm doing good in sports, and if I could get bigger I could be 10 times better.” For a first time New Year's Resolution maker, Bryan has a pretty hefty goal. Although hefty, he sees this goal as valuable, saying: “If I'm able to become stronger as one unit…hopefully get others on our football team and maybe even members of the wrestling team that want to go out and play football.” What an outstanding goal that is as it is very encouraging to us at the Julesburg Journalism Team and many others. Owen, our next interviewee, has goals similar to Bryan’s in that he wants to jump into the weightroom and get on his grind. “One of my New Year's resolutions is to work out every day if possible,” he explained. Owen’s inspiration starts with his family and friends. He says: “All of my friends and family are pushing me,” and we are thrilled to see the support he receives as he strives to improve himself. Next was Kierra, who wants to improve herself in every aspect of life. We witnessed Kierra’s dedication to self improvement when she told us: “My New Year's resolutions are to just focus on myself and bettering myself.” She is looking for ways to enhance her skills in school, at home, “And looking for ways to enhance everything I do and make myself better at everything I do.” She really wants to make sure that she is using her time wisely, because she realizes she doesn’t have a lot of it left here at Julesburg High School. Kierra told us that “Being a senior next year, I just want to make sure that I'm really utilizing my time as I don't have a lot of time left in high school. I want to make sure that I'm putting my best foot forward every time I do something.” The next person we got a hold of was Jaymee whose goal was to better her grades. Jaymee draws inspiration from her older sister “Because she's the first one in my family to go into college and succeed past the first year.” Her greatest challenge has been overcoming time management challenges. Like Owen and Bryan, Emily wants to get better at physical activities. Overall, Emily wants to improve all aspects of her life which seems to be a common goal for the students of Julesburg. Emily is using her betterment for physical activities to get a headstart on the track season. Emily feels now is the perfect time to work on her athletic abilities because she “wants to use [them] to set new PR’s in track for the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles and all of my other events.” With the main theme of interviewee goals being to physically improve themselves, Hope Myslive’s goal is no different. This goal stems from the fact that Hope has “never really thought about [her] figure until this year.” Her main inspiration is Journalism team member Luis Gonzales who is very adamant in being physically active. Unlike most people that we interviewed, Jayce makes a full 180 and focuses on his mind instead of his body. He explains that: “I haven't been feeling like I've been focusing on my mental health lately, and I feel like I need to focus on that more to be a better person overall.” Like Jayce, Mrs. Monette also wants to improve her mental health by being more positive. This shows how ambition can span generations. Overall, most of the priorities in Julesburg High School seem to be focused on improving themselves in every aspect. However, some people like Mrs. Ehnes don't make New Year's Resolutions. At first, this may seem strange, but we found a lot of motivation in her reasoning. As you embark on your journey of 2022, join us in reflecting on Mrs. Ehnes’ words: “I typically do not make New Year's resolutions as I try to be that person daily and not wait for one time of year to set myself up for something that may or may not come to fruition.”

Due to deteriorating road and weather conditions, school will be dismissed early @ 12:30 p.m. today (January 5th). In addition, there will be no school tomorrow (January 6th) as weather and road conditions will continue to worsen.

New/Updated COVID Isolation/Quarantine Guidelines (January 3rd, 2022) Isolation - Individuals, who test positive, regardless of vaccination status, should isolate. Isolation expectations include: • Isolate for at least 5 days. • If no symptoms exist or symptoms are resolving after 5 days, end isolation but continue wearing a mask for 5 additional days. • Continue isolation if a fever is present, regardless of the length of time. • A negative test is not required to return to school upon completion of the isolation period. Quarantine - Close contact (All individuals living in the same residence are defined as close contacts) with a COVID positive individual should use the following quarantine guidance: • Anyone who develops symptoms following exposure should get tested then stay home. • Individuals who tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 90 days, or have an up to date vaccine: ■ Do NOT need to quarantine at home ■ Do Wear a mask around others for 10 days ■ Do Test 5 days after exposure (*Free BinaxNOW COVID Rapid Self Tests available) • Individuals who do not have an up to date vaccine: ■ Do Stay home for 5 days, then wear a mask around others for another 5 days ■ Do Test 5 days after exposure (*Free BinaxNOW COVID Rapid Self Tests available) * Up to date vaccine is defined as follows: Individuals who have been boosted, OR completed the primary series of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine within the past 6 months, OR completed the primary series of J&J vaccine within the past 2 months. * Quarantine expectations start on the date of last known exposure to a COVID positive individual. Mrs. Jacobs and the elementary students took a few days this week to practice the Philipino dance of Tinikling. Students learn 5 basic steps and practiced moving to the beat of music. It was so fun!

Christmas Break Here We Come!!! Preschool celebrated the final day of school before break with some cookie decorating a short movie. We ended with a short singing program for our families to enjoy!

Enjoying our last school day of 2021. Students presented their finals and snacked on the food associated with their artist!
