Students at Julesburg High School have the opportunity to enroll in Public Speaking. In this course, students are introduced to public speaking as an important component of their academic, work, and social lives. They study public speaking occasions and develop skills as fair and critical listeners, or consumers, of spoken information and persuasion. Students study types of speeches (informative, persuasive, dramatic, and special occasion), read and listen to models of speeches, and prepare and present their own speeches to diverse audiences.
In a vibrant exploration of corn, Family Consumer Science students dive into a world of cornbread by studying the history, recipes, and nutritional benefits. The class experimented with various types of cornbread including traditional southern cornbread, sweet cornbread and yellow cornbread. Through hands on cooking, students practice essential techniques such as mixing and baking that culminates into a delightful tasting session where they sample each creation . This experience not only enhances their culinary skills but fosters an appreciation for the cultural significance of corn.
Big congratulations to the Julesburg FFA Chapter for earning the Lion PRIDE call of the day! The Chapter has been pursuing EXCELLENCE in their Supervised Agricultural Experiences and is ranked in the top 25 nationally across multiple categories, including #14 in the Nation for Journal Entries. They've also claimed the #1 spot in Colorado.
Fifth grade students had the opportunity to attend and participate in Water Fest activities this week. Students learned the importance of teamwork as well as the utilization of modern resources with the Sterling Fire Department. Students interacted in 2 different races to fill containers of water. The first by pumping water by hand and the second was by hauling a fire hose.
Mrs Hansen's preschool class practiced letter and name recognition through this fun hands on activity. Students studied their name cards and then graphed them according to beginning letters.
This week in PE the students learned how to bump and set the volleyball. Two of the 3rd graders were showing off their skills bumping the ball back and forth to each other.

1st and 2nd grade students finished their personal narratives in writing class. Today they had the chance to share their stories with the class.
Pre-K students were introduced to using a five frame. A five frame is a tool that helps visualize numbers and understand addition and subtraction concepts.

Back in the shop with the PST class! Students are sharpening their welding skills, focusing on butt weld, lap welds, and T welds. Great progress on mastering these techniques.
Hands-on learning in Animal Science and JH Ag Exploration! Students practiced giving real vaccinations using models, learning the difference between SQ (subcutaneous) and IM (intramuscular) shots, and the correct location for each. Great job future animal health experts!

Title Tip of the Month
In our third-grade classroom, students are actively engaging with the concept of forces—both pushes and pulls. They are collaboratively conducting investigations to understand the impact of balanced and unbalanced forces. This hands-on approach not only fosters critical thinking but also enhances their understanding of fundamental physics.
The Senior Government class is preparing their campaign strategies for the Mock Election that will be held in the elementary school in October.
We have had a special guest in our Ag Classes! Catie Green from CSU Extension Agency stopped by to work with students on plant identification as they prepare for the upcoming Range Judging competition. We have also had Kelly Schmidt from CSU helping identify plants. Exciting hands-on learning for our future range experts!
SFC US Army National Guard Dylan Blocksom spoke about the multitude of options the Army National Guard has to offer students that are planning their post-secondary options. Serving your country has a lot of additional benefits the students were not aware of.
