It's that time of year; marching band started today! Students first learned basics of marching and we will add instruments next.
Shelby Lechman working on her Summit Skills For Health course. Summit Skills For Health focuses on important skills and knowledge in nutrition; physical activity; the dangers of substance use and abuse; injury prevention and safety; growth and development; and personal health, environmental conservation, and community health resources. The curriculum is designed around topics and situations that engage student discussion and motivate students to analyze internal and external influences on their health-related decisions. This course will help Shelby build the skills she needs to protect, enhance, and promote her own health and the health of others.
Freshmen are getting ready for an exciting journey of self-discovery in their Individual Career and Academic Planning class! They are creating a slide presentations about themselves, but this is so much more than just a class project. It's a chance to reflect on who they are right now and envision the person they want to become. Remember, every great journey begins with a single step. What will yours be?

Today in computer class, Mr. Boehm was working to get NWEA installed. Right as Ms. Miller was about to tell the kids who were done to get on Typing.com to practice typing, Ms. Miller sees Cameron and Matthew already doing It! She didn't even have to ask, they just took the initiative to be on task and get started.

Save Fred! Third Grade worked on their team building skills by rescuing Fred (the gummy worm) from his capsized boat and safely getting the life preserve around his body. They had to work together using only 4 paper clips to complete the task without Fred falling in the water.
Today in Strength and Fitness we tested on Pro Agility and the L test to see how much the students will improve their times at the end of the year.
Humans are not the best at recognizing when cognitive bias may be influencing our own judgements and decisions. So, students in personal finance learned about common examples and how to recognize bias. Students had to match scenarios and definitions of various types of bias to explore ways of overcoming cognitive bias.

4th graders taking a break from testing. These games allow students to continue the use of their critical thinking skills, and their ability to recall information quickly, all while having fun!
After listening to a couple chapters of a book, Third Graders did a timed pair share with a partner to tell them what they remembered. Students were given 30 seconds to talk while their partner listened with their whole body, then switched roles. After sharing students then drew a picture of a scene and presented to the class.
